An Overview

Mid-Valley Literacy Center was founded in 2009 to provide small group and individual instruction to adult immigrants, refugees, and non-traditional students.

Surviving the Covid pandemic and changing government policies on immigration and refugee admittance, the Center continues to provide an educational experience unlike that of a more traditional school or college.

The tutors are all volunteers—people dedicated to providing support to adults from many countries, of differing backgrounds, and with varying levels of education who seek to improve their lives.

Classes typically offered include: ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages); Spanish Literacy; ABE (Adult Basic Education); Pre-GED and GED (all four subjects: math, science, social science, and language arts) in both English and Spanish; basic computers; and US Citizenship.

Mid-Valley Literacy Center receives no government funding. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, funded through grants, donations, and student fees.
